Below are the questions we hear most often from clients working through Medicare enrollment, life insurance decisions, and existing policy reviews. If your question isn't covered here, it's a five-minute conversation to get an answer.
Medicare Enrollment Questions
- When can I actually enroll or make changes? We handle Initial Enrollment, Annual Enrollment (Oct 15–Dec 7), and Special Enrollment Periods triggered by events like moving or losing employer coverage.
- Do you charge a fee for Medicare help? No. We're compensated by the carrier, not by you, whether you enroll or not.
- Can you compare plans across companies? Yes, we work with multiple Medicare Advantage and Supplement carriers rather than pushing a single company's product.
Life and Final Expense Coverage
- What's the difference between term life and final expense? Term life covers a set period (like 20 years) for income replacement or debt payoff; final expense is a smaller, permanent policy sized to cover funeral and end-of-life costs.
- Do I need a medical exam? Many final expense policies are simplified-issue with no exam; term life policies typically require basic health questions and sometimes an exam depending on the amount.
- Can I name multiple beneficiaries? Yes, and we walk through how to split percentages and name contingent beneficiaries when we set up the policy.
Policy Reviews and Premium Changes
- Is a policy review free? Yes, bring in your current policy and we'll go through the coverage and premium with you line by line.
- How often should I review my coverage? We recommend a review any time your health, income, or family situation changes, or at least every couple of years.
- Can you lower my premium without cutting coverage? Sometimes — it depends on your age, health class, and whether a different carrier prices your risk more favorably.
Working With an Independent Agent
- Are you tied to one insurance company? No, we're independent and licensed to represent multiple carriers for Medicare, life, and final expense products.
- Do you explain things in plain language? Yes, that's the whole point of sitting down with an agent instead of reading a policy summary alone.
- What are your hours? Monday through Saturday, 9:00am to 9:59pm. Closed Sunday.
I'd been putting off Medicare enrollment for months because I didn't understand the deadlines. Phoenix Rising walked me through my options and got me signed up before the window closed.
They explained exactly what my life policy covered and why I had it in the first place — nobody had ever broken it down for me like that before.
After a policy review, they found me a comparable plan for less. I'm paying under a month less than before with the same coverage.
